MG TD TF 1500 - What`s This for.

OK so found this in a garage tool box-but what is it or what's it for please?

Appears to be a screw-type lock-ring remover. The three pins will fit into either pin holes or slots in the lock-ring. The large hole on the other end is for a tommy-bar.

So I'm pretty sure it's for an MG but what locking ring could it be?

Maybe used to hold gearbox and diff flanges, what does the PCD of the pins match.
